Driving Alerts Crash Detection uses patented technology to detect major collisions. It relies on sensors in your phone to detect a big impact whenever the vehicle is moving a minimum of 25 mph. Therefore, it won’t detect fender-benders, being rear-ended, or other minor accidents. A collision cannot be detected if location sharing isn’t ‘always’ enabled, or when a user doesn’t permit our app to utilize motion and fitness sensors (these permissions are often accessed within the ‘Settings’ area of your phone and can be named differently counting on your phone type). Please also ensure that each one your Circle members keep selecting ‘Always’ for location sharing so as to enable Crash Detection and protect your loved ones. so as for us to detect a crash:

  • The vehicle has to be moving at a sustained speed of least at 25 mph for a minimum of 30 seconds before the collision
  • The vehicle has to come to a sudden, complete stop after the collision
  • The phone has to have over 20% battery life and not be in power saving mode
  • The phone has to have a cellular signal and Life24h needs permission to use it
  • If you’re on a CDMA carrier (including Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular), cell data doesn’t always work if you’re on a telephone. If you’re on a telephone at the time of a car crash, the crash won’t be detected until after you hang up the phone. If you don’t end your telephone shortly after the crash, we won’t be ready to detect it in the least.
  • You need to be in a vicinity with strong mobile phone reception (e.g. Crash Detection doesn’t add a tunnel)

Even if all the standards above are met, Life24h might not detect all major collisions because of network outages, computer error, availability of GPS location data, sensor error on the mobile device, and crash location outside of a wireless service coverage area among others. See the Terms of Use for complete details and limitations. For best reliability:

  • Place your phone in a very secure position like in your pocket, phone holder, or glove box
  • Have your phone’s WiFi turned on
  • Make sure your phone is well charged
  • Use the newest version of the Life24h app

In an attempt to err on the side of caution, we’ll always prefer to report events, whether or not they show borderline signs of being an actual crash, which could have only been caused by a dropped phone in an exceedingly car or by a GPS anomaly. so as to stop false alerts for your Circle and emergency contacts in these rare cases, you’ll be prompted to inform us if a warning went on and if you’re okay immediately after an incident has been detected. Since our algorithm is usually learning, the simplest thanks to help it retrieve is by letting us know what happened after we alerted your circle of a false collision. Please, ensure to complete the survey that we send you and to possess your Drive Detection turned on in your Settings.

Drive Detection analyzes phone location and activity to see when each member is driving. During a drive, it detects potentially unsafe behaviors, like phone usage, high speed, hard braking, and rapid acceleration. Driving information and events are then shared with the whole Circle. Many families use this information to possess conversations about safe driving and keep one another in charge of coming home safely.

  • Each member must enable Drive Detection on their account.
  • Drives must be a minimum of ¼ mile and over 15 mph, so some shorter drives might not be detected.
  • Drive Detection increases battery usage. Drive detection is automatically disabled when the battery is 20% or less.
  • Drive Detection requires the app to be allowed to run within the background and without battery saver mode in use on the phone.
  • Drive Detection requires data service and will not function properly if the cell signal or GPS are low or interrupted (e.g., but two bars).
  • Driver Protect crash detection* requires Drive Detection to be enabled and a sustained speed of a minimum of 25 mph for a minimum of 30 seconds before the collision. Therefore, fender-benders, rear-end collisions and other minor accidents might not be detected. (See the Terms of Use for limitations of crash detection)
  • NOTE: If you’re on a CDMA carrier (including Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular), cell data doesn’t always work if you’re on a telephone. If you’re on a telephone at the time of a car crash, the crash won’t be detected until after you hang up the phone. If you don’t end your telephone shortly after the crash, we won’t be ready to detect it in any respect.
  • Drives showing as trips usually happen thanks to one amongst the problems listed above.

When subscribed to the driving force Protect plan, Driving Events can help families better understand their driving behaviors and take action to become better, safer drivers. Below could be a list of the various events and the way they’re being tracked.
NOTE: CDMA cell carriers (including Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular) don’t always support the internet while on a telephone. If your cell provider doesn’t support the internet while on a telephone, our system won’t be able to update your movement, driving behaviors or detect a collision if you’re on a telephone.
Hard Braking
Shown when the vehicle involves an abrupt stop or hits the brakes aggressively. In terms of speed, this is often roughly adequate braking hard enough to slow the vehicle by about 8 miles per hour or more in one second. Hard braking could also be an indication of distracted driving or speeding.
Rapid Acceleration
Identifies a sudden burst of speed in an exceedingly short amount of your time, defined as a rise in the speed of about 8 miles per hour or more in one second. Rapid acceleration is often a possible sign of reckless or distracted driving.
Phone Usage
The app determines phone usage by detecting movement of the phone including orientation change and locking or unlocking your phone while moving at driving speed. it’ll not detect phone usage when the vehicle is stopped or if the phone is being employed with a hands-free device. Many cars nowadays have hands-free Bluetooth capabilities that yield both making and receiving calls without the driving force removing their hands from the wheel or having to touch their phone in the slightest degree because of wheel control buttons and voice-activated calling. Also, many cars will display and browse aloud, incoming text messages. due to these features, drivers are able to keep on phone conversations without being involved in what’s commonly called “distracted driving”, which involves the driving force holding the phone within the hand, looking down at the phone to read texts, reply to texts, dial and answer a call.
For this reason, phone usage within the app is decided by handling and movement like what would be caused by “distracted driving”.
High Speed
High speed displays when the vehicle exceeds 80 mph. Over 80 mph is taken into account a high-risk speed. A high-speed is one that’s measured for a minimum of 30 seconds, so short bursts of speed might not be recorded within the app. At this point, high-speed detection doesn’t take into consideration the ordinance on the road that the vehicle is on at the time. We are performing on providing this feature in an exceedingly future update.
Top Speed
Top speed is reported at the tip of drive-in spite of everything data is accumulated for the drive. At this point, we aren’t able to pinpoint the precise location where the very best speed was located on the map. We are performing on providing this feature in an exceedingly future update.
Battery Level
Driving detection and behaviors won’t be monitored if the device battery is 20% or less.
EXAMPLE SCREENSHOT BELOW:
NOTE: the subsequent image shows the tiny pop-up on the map that appears after you tap on ‘High Speed’ within the orange circle. It shows the spot on the map where high speed occurred. during this image, there are five instances of high speed shown within the orange circle. Tapping it again will show the second location of hard braking.

Located on each member’s profile is a choice to view the Weekly Driver Report.
This is a Driver Protect Plan feature that displays a week’s worth of Safe Drive Reviews.
Instead of having to test each drive for events, we’ve made it incredibly easy to urge a snapshot of top speed, phone usage, high speed, rapid acceleration and hard braking for every week.
*NOTE: Turning off ‘Location Sharing’ within the app won’t prevent the Weekly Driving Report from showing the member’s driving history report for the week.

There is not a feature within the app that will allow you to alter the space from kilometers to miles. Your phone will display miles or kilometers supported the phone language and region settings. Currently, only the US and UK display miles.
If your device is displaying something aside from what’s expected, check the language and region settings in your device.

When subscribed to the motive force Protect plan, a phone usage event is detected if the phone is getting used in an exceedingly way that resembles distracted driving. This includes things like texting, calling or using an app while driving. Using the phone during a drive but while the car isn’t moving, like at a stoplight, doesn’t count as phone use.

  • The app determines phone usage by detecting the movement of the phone.
  • The app doesn’t detect an actual call or text, nor does it notice if the AUX cord is plugged in.

Many cars nowadays have hands-free Bluetooth capabilities that provide both making and receiving calls without the motive force removing their hands from the wheel or having to touch their phone the least bit because of handwheel control buttons and voice-activated calling.
Also, many cars will display and skim aloud, incoming text messages. thanks to these features, drivers are able to stick with it phone conversations without being involved in what’s commonly called “distracted driving”, which involves the motive force holding the phone within the hand, looking down at the phone to read texts, reply to texts, dial and answer a call.
For this reason, phone use, in the app, is decided by movement like what would be caused by distracted driving.

Yes. If you’d prefer to upgrade, tap on the ‘Upgrade’ button when prompted to look at driving-related features under location history.

Life24h may occasionally display a really high speed that seems unreasonable for the conditions.
We consider the speed reported within the app to be reasonably accurate, but due to the sampling of location points, it’s going to miss points in your trip.
This may cause the app to work out a visit from point A to point B happen in an exceedingly shorter period of your time, thereby showing the next speed than was actually driven.
This is not common and doesn’t explain every high-speed event. Sometimes high speed is really high speed.
We are always working to enhance the accuracy of the app. Accuracy is decided in large part by the strength of the signal and data connection to the app. A weaker signal will produce less accurate results. We recommend always keeping Wifi turned on to extend accuracy, even when a connection to Wifi isn’t available.
